More people are considering the power of sunlight. The reason is because a quality solar power system is a viable DIY energy option for cutting energy costs. However, adding solar panels isn’t something just anyone does, at least not without considering location.
Look at Sunlight
The first thing to think about before incorporating solar energy into a home is the sun itself. Not every place is an ideal location for solar panels. This is why it’s important to think about how the sun hits the property. More solar energy is apparent in the desert or in higher altitude locations. Everywhere else in the country, it’s important to consider the sun’s brightness.
It also means knowing what type of sunlight a home receives for the majority of the day, especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The goal is to receive shadow-free, full, bright sunlight for a number of hours. If it’s cloudy too often, then you won’t gather enough solar power to convert it into electricity.
Consider the Shadows
Some people aren’t aware that solar panels aren’t too fond of shadows. The reason is because shadows lower the amount of electrical output. Even a little bit of shade changes the voltage amount. This is why it helps to know when shadows appear around your home. The best location has the sun appearing overhead during midday hours.
Angle Panels at the Sun
When the sun is considered a viable DIY energy source, make sure to place the solar panels on mounts that are directed toward the sun. When the solar cells are angled at the sun, there will be more energy production. It is beneficial when the mounts can be adjusted during the year because the light changes. The goal is to locate maximum DIY energy amounts, which is done by finding appropriate sunlight.
